One late November evening, Marilla was sitting by the stove in the kitchen.
11월의 어느 늦은 저녁, 마릴라는 주방 난로 옆에 앉아 있었다.

She was doing some knitting but noticed that her eyes were very tird. That had been happening a lot lately.
그녀는 뜨개질을 하고 있었는데 눈이 매우 피로함을 느꼈다. 최근들어 자주 일어나는 일이었다.

Anne was curled up on the rug in front of the stove. She had been reading, but the book had slipped out of her

hand.
앤은 난로앞 바닥에 웅크리고 자고 있었다. 앤은 책을 읽고 있었지만 책은 손에서 미끄러졌다.

She had fallen asleep and was now visiting the wonderful land of dreams where she had marvelous adventures.
앤은 잠에 빠졌고 신기한 모험을 가지고 꿈 속의 멋진 나라로 찾아가고 있었다.

Marilla looked at her with a tenderness she was beyond fondness for Anne.
마릴라는 앤을 예전보다 더 좋아했고 앤을 다정하게 바라보았다.

She had grown to truly love the red-headed girl who was lying peacefully in front of her.
그녀 앞에서 평온하게 잠 들어 있는 빨간 머리 소녀를 진심으로 사랑하게 되었다.

"Anne," Marilla said. "Miss Stacy came to see you today when you were with Diana."
"앤," 마릴라가 말했다. "오늘 네가 다이아나와 함께 있을때 스테이시 선생님이 널 보러 오셨어."

"Relly! Why didn't you call me? We were only in the Haunted Woods." Anne then proceeded to tell Marilla in detail about her afternoon. After about ten minutes of talking, she finally asked, "So why did Miss Stacy visit?"
"정말이요! 왜 저를 부르지 않으셨어요? 우린 유령의 숲에서만 있었는데요." 그리고 앤은 오후에 있었던 일을 자세하게 말하기 시작했다. 앤은 10분쯤 이야기를 하고 나서야 마침내 마릴라에게 물었다. "그런데 스테이시 선생님께서 왜 오셨어요?"
